ITUNES MOVIE RENTALS-AM I MISSING SOMETHING?

I will start out by stating that I love my 160 gig IPOD. I started out with the 40 gig and have moved up each generation as Apple has released them. Until the 80 gig was released you could only download music which was cool. I am however a huge movie buff. I collect them and much to my girlfriend’s chagrin watch some that I love over and over again. When apple released the generation of IPOD that you could download movies to, I was thrilled.

Unfortunately, I-Tunes never really kept pace. Every once in a while they would release a movie I like but in general they put a bunch of crap out there that there was not a huge audience for in the first place. IF I didn’t want to see it or rent it then, I certainly dont want it wasting space on my IPOD.

Then video ripping software was developed. This was my savior because I have a huge DVD collection of well over 400 movies. I paid 40 bucks for mine but there is some good free software that can be downloaded off the internet. I know there will be people reading this screaming copyright infringement but as I paid for the movie originally and downloaded it for my personal use I am not feeling guilty about it.

I began ripping my favorite movie to my IPOD and watching them on planes, at the gym, etc, It is great. You add in Bose Noice Cancelling Headphones it really is a great experience as far as these things go.

But alas, Apple is Itunes is still Russian Roulette. You might see one new movie a week added and there was still an 80 percent chance it was some straight to DVD clunker or some other yawner you get stuffed in your Christmas Stocking.

When Apple announced their new Rental program I was excited. I thought there would be overload with great titles coming fast and furiously.

There have been a couple good titles but they are not being added all that fast and I guess I did not read the fine print on this one because no matter what I try, the rental will not sync to my ipod. I can only watch it on my computer.I find this very weird because the new IPod Firmware update puts a category of movie rentals on my Ipod. They also make a big deal of 30 days to watch the movie but that his very misleading Once you start watching the movie, you only have 24 hours to finish it. I guess that made sense to someone……

I am sorry but unless I am a huge accumulator of Frequent Flyer miles, what is the point of the whole thing if I cant transfer the movie to my Ipod? What’s the big deal? How does this compete with Netflx, Blockbuster etc? Unless Im in a hotel in Tasmania with no other option, I still would rather watch the movie on a television or in the theatre….

What am I missing?

My opinion: ITunes movie rentals adds no value or incentive to make it a realistic choice unless you are a heavy traveler. Even then, its not a very good choice as the selection sucks. If I am in a hotel, I would rather fork over the extra ten bucks for the much better in-room movie selection with no-download wait.

Time to go rip another blockbuster hit to my IPOD because I sure wont find it on ITUNES and if I do, I cant fit my MAC book in front of me on the elliptical trainer.

THE SONG REMAINS THE SAME

(Washingon)CNN is reporting that Presidential candidate John McCain’s Ipod was found the other day at airport security where he accidently left it while stumping for the upcoming Primary. While no one will admit listening to it, CNN has learned that the only songs on it were as follows:

1.The Star Spangled Banner;
2. God Bless America;
3. The Battle Hymn of the Republic
4. Popeye The Sailorman
5. “We’re Not Gonna Take It” by Twisted Sister

There allegedly was also a bootleg copy of the movie “I AM LEGEND”

Go Figure…..
